Artist Statement
"As for man, his days are like grass; he flourishes like a flower of the field; for the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and its place knows it no more." Psalm 103:15-16
Isolation and darkness are reoccurring themes throughout my artwork. I am inspired by youth, nature, and nostalgia. My concepts and ideas derive from the Bible and personal life. I like to use a muted and monochromatic color palette to communicate the idea of fading memory and sadness. I play with the juxtaposition of real and abstract subjects as they blend together in my paintings.

I work with watercolor and graphite on paper and stretched cotton. My process includes utilizing the translucency of watercolor to give my work a haunting but luminous quality. I also incorporate granulated color to emphasize decay and disintegration. The tone of graphite is used to enhance details and give the subject a statuesque appearance. My work expresses the beauty and brevity of life.
